Today, on March 23, we recognize the invaluable contributions of optometrists to eye health. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of routine eye care and the vital role optometrists play in enhancing our quality of life.
Join us in spreading awareness about the significance of eye health and supporting access to quality vision care for everyone. Here are some meaningful ways to celebrate:

It just goes to figure that I get a new job, get new health coverage again FINALLY... and then discover that the eye doctor I've gone to for decades is not covered by my new vision coverage. AUGH.
So now I have to bail on them and go find a new provider. I have one I'm going to be looking at, but in the meantime, I would like to give a public shoutout to University Vision Clinic in Seattle. They've given me reliable vision coverage since 1991 and I've never had a problem with them at all. I'm only regretfully leaving them 'cause, again, _insurance_.
But if you're in decent range of the U-District and you need vision care, I can and will recommend them.

Holy crap.
So, yes I'm old enough to need #progressive (read #bifocals) lenses in my #glasses. Spurred by this weekends *breaking* of my non-tinted pair, I finally went for an eye-exam for the first time in nearly 5 years.
The frame alone is $350 (thanks #Luxottica Group S.p.A monopoly asshats)** **and the lenses are $275 each.
And guess how much the benefits cover: $250 every 24 months. Do unspent amounts rollover? nope.
*Tragically, few #optometrists have layaway or installment plans.*
You may get eyestrain from looking at screens all day BUT blue light from screens isnโt ruining your eyes!
Looking at screens for too long can cause eyestrain, but eyestrain existed long before screens. (Driving long distances is another cause, the Mayo Clinic notes.) Eyestrain may involve fatigue of the tiny muscles in and around our eyes, and people who get eyestrain may experience discomfort that includes headaches, blurry vision, watering of the eyes, and sensitivity to light.
Thereโs a rumor that the blue light from smartphones (or other screens) can ruin your vision, perhaps even leading to blindness, but itโs not backed up by evidence. โThe amount of light coming from a computer has never been demonstrated to cause any eye disease,โ the American Academy of Opththalmology states in an article on their website recommending against blue-light-blocking glasses. There is research that finds blue light can damage cells in certain lab conditions, but those conditions are very different from what happens in the actual cells of our retina. https://squeet.me/objects/962c3e10f8853ae50083a572441b8dc9bcf4389a
