Water temp is now above fifteen so the triathletes are all back. I love seeing the venue filled with a flotilla of tow floats.
I managed 750m, so starting to get exercise rather than just cold water immersion.
🌊🏊🏻♂️🌊 Super lovely swimming today: 275m, 15 min, 14°C (in the H2O), a bright sunny day.
Nada como a primeira sessão de nado em água aberta depois de um longo inverno.
Água ainda a 13C, mas deu pra divertir.
With 10°C in the water, swimming (slightly) longer is now possible, not just dipping in & getting out. 👍 And Yay, I met the 1st other swimmer this year; she passed me by bike and went swimming about a 1km from 'my place'. And another yay: The open air shower is operating again. 😃
I really liked this piece by @petecarr
So many swimmers rave about the dopamine hit of cold water exposure. I don't get that. Mostly I just feel cold.
Nevertheless there's something very powerful in overcoming the lizard brain's very well-founded response to being in cold-water. I feel the fear and do it anyway (subject to rational safety assessment.) In a world where my brain is constantly rattling, facing that primal fear is very powerful.

I really wasn't in the mood for swimming today but I went anyway, and the sun was shining and there were new swimmers to welcome, so batteries recharged slightly. Not actually warmer than last week though, despite a full week of sunshine. Cold nights are still dragging temperatures down.
