An AI upgrade for your car

I just read about car driving models like #openpilot and I think there could be a lof of funny scenarios in the future. Imagine your self driving car suddenly stops to pick up a hitchhiker because it saw that in its training data and imitates the bahavior. 'Beep boop I picked up a friend for you ' 😂 #ai

Ngl, pretty cool to see #openpilot being shown off in an #LTT video. For some Malaysians who are interested, you might be better off with the Msian fork, #bukapilot, which adds support for some of our local cars like #Proton 's and #Perodua 's (and some other popular cars here).

Yes, it's true, you can get an open source self-driving for the car that you already have for $999 instead of Tesla's FSD $8000 that's on the same level and perhaps drives better, without Elon's pile of BS lies with an honest information of what you're getting - a level 2 autonomous driving, the same as Tesla ...

Introducing the Comma 3X, an affordable device priced at USD 1,000, designed to add an autopilot feature to your conventional car. It operates using open-source software called OpenPilot, which is supported by a variety of community-driven adaptations. The Comma 3X is compatible with over 300 car models, including the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Volkswagen e-Golf.

I've been debating about selling my current Prius Prime BUT learning about #OpenPilot and how it supports my current car, it might make a difference for me.

BTW, if you don't know what these things were that I was asking the community about in hopes of a response from the Telo Trucks rep:

OVMS = OpenVehicles Monitoring System - It's something that could, effectively, replace all of the connected services many vehicle manufacturers provide, but allows you to own every aspect of it, provided the vehicle is adequately supported. This includes being able to view your vehicle's state of charge, stop and start charging, lock and unlock doors remotely, start and stop climate remotely, see various aspects of vehicle health and performance, etc. It can integrate with ABRP for intelligent EV navigation, and it can integrate with Home Assistant for building automations. Using the public servers for remote access is entirely optional.

OpenPilot - Intelligent navigation system that provides some driving automation, including intelligent cruise control, and some very basic autonomous driving. Provided it has support for the vehicle, it can use the vehicle's own systems for making decisions.

As you can see, all of the responses I noted have nothing to do with any of this. Reddit is just a cesspool of hate and ignorance.

OVMS actually helped me track down a problem with my 12v battery through its logging capabilities. It also assists me in tracking energy usage and habits. But it has limited support for my current EV so it has limited capability. For now, it can't fully replace Kia Connect.

I have no interest in autonomous driving. But I find adaptive/intelligent cruise control to be tremendously useful for longer drives. This still requires my attention, but significantly reduces the cognitive load of driving long distances, particularly during traffic congestion.

Both of these projects are Open Source. OVMS has a criminally low amount of attention, though, in a space where people would LOVE to break away from manufacturer connected services being locked behind paywalls.
