My wife is getting me a chain to wear my wedding ring round my neck. I dislocated that finger playing rugby back in the day, and I’ve also broken the knuckle a couple of times, and the joint has always been a bit swollen and seems to be getting worse as I get older. Who says romance is dead?

There it is, the M57, also known as the Ring Nebula. A planetary nebula about 2,000 light-years away, quietly glowing in the constellation Lyra.
After a couple of nights out with the telescope, battling focus, clouds, and expectations, this photo is far from perfect — but it's real. A tiny ring of gas, the remains of a dying star, floating in the void.
