#onepiece #onepieceliveaction
finally posting this after a weeklong break lol. as mentioned before, kid me skimmed/skipped through a lot of Whisky Peak and Little Garden, so my recollections of them are very, very vague
ANYWAY
- love love lovvvvvve Miss Valentine. she’s one of the few agents from early Baroque Works that I can distinctly remember, aside from Miss All Sunday (Nico Robin) and maybe Miss Goldenweek? Jazzara Jaslyn really nailed her cackling and I enjoy the Twiggy-esque thing she’s got going on
- I don’t remember Mr. 5 especially well, but from the looks of the anime/manga, he looks like he stepped right out of them, similar to how Kuro, Zeff, and Mihawk did. floors me every time I see that
- same goes for Robin/Miss All Sunday! Lera Abova captures her beauty and chilling presence accurately. her accent really accentuates both! my only complaint is that she isn’t as olive/dark-complected as she was in the anime (and a lesser extent, the manga). Abova is Russian though, which matches the hypothetical real-life country that Oda listed for her once
- also really like how Robin’s Devil Fruit powers are portrayed. the arms she spawns are beautiful and elegant, but oh so deadly and vicious. I couldn’t stop rewatching her introductory scene just to watch how each one mirked all of those Marines
- haven’t had a chance to mention this at ALL, but I love how OPLA has the wanted poster overlay pirate character intros! it feels fittingly comic book-like, and kinda stands in for the “Oda box” that introduces new characters in the manga
- the pre-Loguetown scene on the Going Merry felt a little…idk…thrown together? but it was also super funny watching 1) Usopp and Sanji bicker over the pepper grinder, and 2) Usopp get exasperated over Sanji convincing Nami to treat herself to a shopping spree…while also complimenting Sanji’s looks the whole time. SanUso shippers, come get your juice
- Loguetown did feel authentically like a small-but-bustling port town. a lot of different people coming and going, the shopping districts…almost wish there was more time spent there just to look at everything
- Nami and Usopp shopping and talking together was really cute. I hope there’s more scenes of them being besties; their dynamic is probably my favorite out of all the Straw Hat relationships
- wasn’t sure how to feel about OPLA introducing Bartolomeo this early, but I completely forgot that he actually *was* at Loguetown that day. it was hilarious seeing him try to pick-pocket Nami and her turning around like “man, you fucking suck at this. listen, dumbass, *this* is how you do it”
- the Italian opera singer performing “My Sails Are Set” was a nice little treat that I wasn’t expecting
- OPLA Tashigi is really cute; she really does—shockingly—look almost exactly like the girl who played Kuina and I enjoyed seeing her demonstrate her sword autism around Zoro even though that friendliness is short-lived
I finished watching the 2nd season of the One Piece Live Action yesterday, and it's been a fun watch, but I really wonder how far they'll get in this adaptation.
Apparently they're aiming for the time skip as the stopping point but at the pace of 1 season every 2 years, it'll be a LONG while before they ever get there, nevermind if they even manage to avoid cancellation considering how expensive the show is.
I appreciate them actually covering each arc though, and not just cutting whole arcs out.
Una ballena con sombrerito de paja y un reno con gran experiencia médica.
Así sin más.
¡A disfrutar!
Dió casualidad de que tenía este pedido agendado desde hace bastantes meses y que justo pude terminarlo LA SEMANA CORRECTA.
Espero que estéis gozando el live action ❤️
aaaaaaand that’s it for rewatching season 1 of OPLA! I’ll definitely add comments anywhere I forgot to make them, provided that I don’t hit the character limit
gonna try to watch at least the first season 2 episode, which ought to only cover Loguetown
- lmao @ Buggy running off the minute he got his body back. all that was missing was a little Yackety Sax music
- LMAOOOOO @ Nami running past an open-armed Sanji. probably the hardest I’ve laughed this whole time, the comedic timing was impeccable
- I guess Luffy’s “YOU MADE OUR NAVIGATOR CRY!” line *did* make it in after all? how the fuck did I memory-hole that, that moment is pretty iconic
- will cherish that mischievous shit-eating grin on Godoy’s face when his Luffy figures out that destroying the map room is how he’ll defeat Arlong
- both Gum Gum Gatling and Gum Gum Battle Axe were spectacular! the original anime/manga version of the Arlong Park arc will always reign supreme for me overall, but Godoy’s strong performance really made the changes work
- guess I also memory-holed that all of the Arlong Park pagoda’s floors were basement level, so the map room was the top floor after all! guess the joke’s on me
- I don’t think I can touch on the MASSIVE spoiler when mentioning the plot significance of Luffy smiling with sunlight streaming behind him after having emerged from the rubble >>;
- Nojiko shutting down Sanji after he attempted some pickup artistry…honestly, good for her lmao
- got a little nervous over Koby and Helmeppo refusing to arrest Luffy, but it turned out the punishment was (of course) rigorously training under Garp. welcome to Hell, boys!
- could help but notice Luffy holding back tears when Garp was tossing him around. I think because the power Garp has over him isn’t just physical, but emotional? which tracks because Garp was pretty abusive, even if his intentions were to “toughen” Luffy up into a proper Marine
- as hokey as the Gold Roger/Luffy laugh overlay was—and I think it might give the wrong impression to OPLA-only fans as to *how* the two are related—I liked that it stopped Garp dead in his tracks. like I recall a few times where it came up and he refused to hear it, but it makes sense that much of this was denial…
- …so I guess I ended up liking that he decided to stop pummeling Luffy and more or less accepted it? the tune change gave me whiplash, but I think he realized 1) to allude to a major spoiler, fate got him beat, 2) Luffy’s every bit as headstrong and unbreakable as he is. it was a surprisingly sweet little moment
- Nojiko and Nami’s last scene together felt gratifying, especially the added bonus that Nojiko modified her shoulder tattoo. 🥺👏 also happy that one of the tangerine pinwheels was stuck at Bellemere’s grave, even if it wasn’t Genzo’s
- Koby and Luffy’s goodbye scene still gets me tearing up every time I watch it 🥺😭💕
- adored the entire finale sequence of everyone reacting to Luffy’s wanted poster (with Usopp in the corner, natch). personal favorite was Zeff hanging it under “Employee of the Month”
- the barrel toast was flawless, even having the kids mouth their adult selves’ dreams
