The film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", directed by Milos Forman and based on Ken Kesey's novel, was released fifty years ago today.

I last saw the film donkeys years ago. It's now thought of as a classic of New Hollywood, but I have been thinking of it recently less in terms of film history and more with regard to its influence on mental health policy, attitudes towards psychiatric treatment, and hostility towards public institutions in general.

I haven't researched the matter, but I suspect that influence might have been pernicious.
