I watched the credits twice, just to be sure, but no-one was willing to take the blame for the appalling #subtitles to #OnceUponAHoliday .

When #BrianaEvigan and the male lead were carrying a Christmas tree, 'That's the heavy end, by the way.' became 'That's the avian, by the way.'.

The whole of 'Silent night; holy night … Christ the saviour is born.' was boiled down to just 'Sunday night, oh. This is.'.

But I was halfway to suspecting intentional sabotage when a group of carollers in the obligatory Christmas market singing the 2nd line of Joy To The World was reduced in the subtitles to 'Hee Hee Hee Hee Hee Hee!'.

It is possible that the cheapskates at #GREATRomance have machine-generated these because none were available.

This was some of the worst subtitling ever — and I've watched YouTube.

I think that the plot involved a runaway princess and living happily ever after or something. I wasn't really paying attention.

There have been various attempts at 'Montsauri', the fictional kingdom that the incognito princess comes from.

We've just had 'monster'.

'Where are you, Katie?' also just became 'Where are the kids?'. There are no kids in the movie.

The mind boggles at the result of someone trying to reverse engineer the original movie from these subtitles.

In amongst discussing politics and SQL and haggis I've been trying to watch #OnceUponAHoliday (2015) to clear that out of the TiVo.

I've been distracted by the subtitles, which appear to have been transcribed by an LLM years before #LLMs did this sort of thing. (Presumably this telly movie was subtitled close to when it came out.)

Almost none of them match the dialogue, and they range from slightly to wildly off. "I'll get my coat." just became "I'm going.", for example.

I am going to have to check at the end of the movie who did them, because this is the most appallingly bad subtitling job that I've seen in a long time.

I'm almost not even following the movie because of a horrified fascination as to what the subtitler will have come up with next.
