Some more of our favourite shots from the reconditioning project at Singleton Station with OnRail.
From the first shot to the final flyover, we truly enjoyed bringing this projects story to life. Looking forward to many more projects just like this! 🏗️ 🛠️

Crowdsourcing events is hot! Here's my take on three articles about meeting and session crowdsourcing.

Night & Day on the Tracks 🚧 🎥
We’ve been on site with the OnRail crew capturing a 3-day reconditioning project at Singleton Station — from pre-starts and excavators to night works and drone flyovers.
Timelapse, twilight, and everything in between. Can’t wait to share the final edit.

Something I was thinking about today is, when you hear about self-hosting or when you are self-hosting. Do you imagine / use on-site hardware or something like a VPS?
If you are self-hosting what are your reasons for doing it the way you do. I know there are arguments for both. This isn't a vs. battle lol. I'm just curious.
Boosts encouraged.
@Ra @krutonium @jrdepriest So it combines all the disadvantages of #WorkFromHome AND "#ReturnToOffice" with ZERO advantages of either!
Whoever decided #HotDesking should be a thing whilst not allowing 100% #remote should be sent after Musk's Tesla in Space one-way!
@jrdepriest the candidate did the right thing: Don't work for #CommercialRealEstate / #OfficeFetishists aka. assholes.
Without #accountability & #consequences, shit like this will continue.
Cuz it is just a waste of time and resources.

A former colleague of mine sent me a message looking for some candidates for this position. I thought I'd pass this on to #GetFediHired since I know a lot of folks are looking. It’s don't know the recruiter involved though I’m assured he's a good guy and a good recruiter. This appears to be an #OnSite role in NYC. I don't know the name of the company or the salary, though given the requirements, I'd expect a decent 6 figure salary to go along with this. Apparently there's a potential 6 figure bonus as well?
Lead Technology Officer
We are looking for a number two technologist to work closely with our CTO onsite in our NYC office. Candidate must be able to write code including C++ and must understand the index futures and options markets in order to work on trading and risk analytic models. Must also have a solid understand of the lifecycle of a trade including but not limited to operations. This individual will also back up our CTO when he is unavailable. The candidate needs to be a good communicator (written and orally) with the ability to engage at all levels of management and clients when called upon.
Below is a basic spec for the position.
Software Engineer
Our team and technological infrastructure is extremely efficient and is currently over 90% automated. We are looking for software engineer that can help us expand while maintaining code robustness and efficiency. The successful candidate should be a problem solver that is interested in adapting new, but proven, technologies.
Requirements:
• Development with Python 3 and aware of PEP8/best practices
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience using C++ in a professional environment
• Experience and comfort across the Linux stack
• Familiarity with some form of messaging system (i.e. GRPC, 0MQ, Kafka)
• Ability to learn fast and adapt independently
Helpful:
• Docker, AWS, git - used across all applications: knowing best practicies on containerization a huge plus
• MySQL/ISO SQL, Spark, CUDA, C#, GRPC, 0MQ are all in our stack, but they may be learned on the job
• Awareness of the Linux kernel (or general knowledge of operating system internals) for diagnosing low-level issues
• Knowledge of statistics, financial derivatives, back-testing/model simulation, and market micro-structure a plus (must have desire to learn and improve)
C++ is a must and having traded products understanding is also needed. Index Futures and Options are the key , but the recruiter scheduled one candidate who was more Derivatives and FX based so they are flexible.

Waiting for my train and going through slides of a BOF from the #isc25 . Apparently, students prefer tutored online courses.
I as a lecturer always prefer onsite courses. Spiced with lots of exercises. Such that I get an immediate impression of proceedings and reception of the material.
Yes, I understand the need-to-travel overhead when living in somewhat remote areas. On the other hand: All those demanding online or even hybrid courses - have you considered that the average participant might learn less? The literature supporting online courses at least is rather underwhelming.
Plus, actually meeting people is way better than chatting online. Same with conferences. I just me people from @SURF and other places whom I only met online before. Such a difference!
Then again, I only travel by train - which cannot expected by everyone ...
