I liked this Tumblr post: https://www.tumblr.com/transfemwulian/799524168466071552
I know Tumblr makes you log in, but I don't have the energy to figure out screenshots and the image included and alt text and all that. A couple excerpts I liked, though:
"it gets treated as this like stock fandom AU and i'll see people like 'i don't understand why anyone wants to read this' and i'm like yes that's bcos it's pretty intense* fetish content & you don't have the right assortment of fetishes for it? there's a bunch of other similar Stock Settings that just haven't breached containment.
*intense as in like, Density of fetish content involved rather than intensity of fetish if that makes sense?"
Excerpt 2:
"ppl will talk about it the way they might talk about say high school/college AUs or coffee shop AUs which are very common and i guess are sometimes presented as things that everyone finds fluffy & relatable? when in reality it's more like idk. piss kink. it'd be pretty weird to read a piss kink fic and go 'ewww why does the author expect me to find piss sexy??' well they don't. they expect people who already think piss is sexy to read the fic."
Excerpts end
To this, I would add that it's more like if some people with piss kinks came up with an AU where half the characters had incontinence issues and also POTS (which requires you to drink a lot of water) and it was socially normal to smell human pee everywhere, and the other half of the characters, idk, got soul-bonded to anyone who peed enough on them. And THEN this became a common fandom AU. Where you would just see "pissverse" as a tag on a G-rated fic that is just about these two characters becoming soul-bonded, with the piss kink part glossed over in favor of logistics around diapers.
Which, like, I wouldn't complain about, as someone with a piss kink, but you see how it would be bothersome for people who *don't* have a piss kink?
So yeah, if you're not into omegaverse, there's nothing wrong with you ^^' (and of course, there's nothing wrong with us omegaverse fans either!)
