"The Bethesda Declaration: One Year Later."
https://www.27unihted.org/bethesda-declaration-one-year-later

"Today, on June 9, 2026, we provide an update to members of Congress and the public on the current status of #NIH, one year after the #BethesdaDeclaration. The chaos of 2025 has been replaced with coordinated, systematic, institutionalized destruction in 2026. NIH policy directed by #HHS and the Office of Management and Budget (#OMB) and implemented by Director Bhattacharya continues to flout ethical, statutory, and legal standards…
* Concern 1: An anti-science agenda is disrupting research for health advances and cures
* Concern 2: Discriminatory policies are worsening disparities
* Concern 3: Ignoring ethical standards has put research participants and the public at risk
* Concern 4: An unstable research environment is undermining scientific advances and public trust
* Concern 5: Lost critical expertise is hindering the NIH mission
* Concern 6: Changing of policies without staff input is creating foreseeable damage
* Concern 7: Cumbersome and shifting processes are wasting resources and harming health
* Concern 8: Disruption of global research is endangering people in the United States and around the world
* Concern 9: A culture of fear and low morale is eroding scientific integrity."

"More broadly, President Trump’s seizure of much of Congress’s Power of the Purse has dramatically reduced Congress’s importance and hence the importance of agencies’ liaison roles.  Russell Vought has made clear to agencies that money comes from OMB and that it is OMB, not Congress, that agencies must appease."

#DefendResearch June Action Hours: OMB Proposed Regulation Change Responses

#DefendResearch is hosting weekly Action Hours throughout June to help people submit comments about the latest OMB proposed regulation changes ("Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance") that would have disastrous consequences for research, and thus all of us. While we are not experts in federal regulation comment submission, we have pulled together and will be sharing key resources created by the scholarly community to make it easy for all of us to take this important action. This includes guidance from former NIH Senior Program Officer Elizabeth Ginexi, who offered this advice: "You do not need to be an expert. You need to describe, in your own words, how your community, your program, your state, or your work depends on stable, merit-based federal grants and what it would mean to lose that. Cite the specific section that would hurt your community."

For the US crowd: Hey #humanities #library #arts 📚 people the #OMB changes also apply to #NEH #NEA and #IMLS grants so they can yank your grant at anytime!! Public comment period ends on July 13th. Here’s an excellent summary

Summary of Key Changes in OMB’s Proposed Federal Financial Assistance Rule

Russell Vought is going to destroy American Science

Elizabeth Ginexi

For those who prefer we not allow the psychotically ideological OMB to lobotomize the US scientific research establishment, here's a way of channeling that sentiment to an influential organization where it'll be organized into traction.

[AGU is targeting research practitioners but for the rest of us reading and adopting many of AGU's content tips affords an excellent way to help make a letter to a legislator better]

And of course, US citizens should contact their congressional reps. Just google that-- it's even easier than just standing on the tracks like a cow and getting run over by a thundering locomotive of greed and ignorance.

Better than howling catharsis into the void.

Stop OMB From Erasing Federal Research

A new proposed rule rewrites the terms of U.S. science

Great write-up on the #OMB change to federal grant decisions

Federal #Grants Should Fund Evidence, Not Ideology
Federal government should strengthen public trust in science, not build political checkpoints around it. Federal grants are taxpayer dollars, and they should absolutely be accountable, transparent, and well-managed. However, accountability is not the same thing as political control and oversight should protect the integrity of #science rather than replace it.

A cancer researcher should not have to wonder whether her grant will survive a political litmus test.

Emergency Science Meeting by Stand Up for Science

OMB’s latest proposed rule, “Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance,” would place political ideologues over scientific experts in federal research funding decisions. Say goodbye to cancer treatment, space exploration, climate science, women's health research, and international collaborations! This is a direct threat to scientific independence, public health, and evidence-based decision-making. It is time to get as loud as you ever have been for science! Join our EMERGENCY SCIENCE MEETING to learn what’s at stake with OMB’s latest proposal, what comes next, and how to fight back against Vought’s attempts to destroy American science. Register now — we need every voice in this fight to save the integrity of federal research in the U.S.! *Accessibility: This webinar will feature ASL interpretation and closed captioning will be available in multiple languages.

The Trump regime takes a wrecking ball to scientific research in the USA.

If you are a student or researcher who's been thinking of coming to the USA, now might be the time to look elsewhere.
