After seeing today's Lateral episode (this is not a spoiler btw), I was reminded of the days when sites would use pop-up licences on their websites. Specifically, the ones where the text in the pop-ups was editable - because someone fucked up.

You could literally delete some/all the text and write whatever you wanted in its place. Then you'd click the ACCEPT button and it'd work.

I'm still owed billions of dollars as well as several first-born children.

I feel superannuated because I used to carry my schoolbooks around secured by a big rubber strap I bought at the school store and no one I work with has even heard of these in 2025.

Random memory of life before the internet.

In the early 1980s I discovered the existence and general shenanigans of the Society of Creative Anachronism by reading a couple of copies of a poorly-printed magazine published by the Kingdom Of The West that I found in a cardboard box of free-please-take trash outside a used bookstore.

The nearest chapter was at least 500 miles from my house. I never was an SCA member, but those weird zines made me a fan!
