Hi #FOSS and #VR community, I’ve got an Oculus Go headset and I’m looking for some advice.

Any recommendations for jailbreaking it, installing custom apps, or using it without needing a fucking Facebook account to load custom APK apps like NewPipe?

I remember having NewPipe installed on them, but that’s about it, I haven’t used them in years. You probably know way more about them than I do.

Currently charging them up, while my current desktop OS I can use is #Debian.

I had an idea a few days ago but I don't have the hardware or knowhow to do it.

The Oculus Go (one of oculus' old headsets) has an official unlocked bootloader as of Oct 2021: https://developer.oculus.com/blog/unlocking-oculus-go/

Perhaps someone could port PostmarketOS to Go? I don't know how you'd tackle the issue of the user interface but theoretically with boot.img and system.img being modifiable you should be able to run whatever, including Linux.

Quest 1 has a few exploits for an unlocked bootloader that all require very old firmware versions and the only known unlocked Quest 2 in existence has a special dev firmware that we do not have so those are out of the picture.

Maybe someone could pull this off on Go?

Btw., #HotelAstoria, the #VR app we and #hugfilms worked on at #blendFX a while ago, is available on #Steam.
All the #3d environment was modeled and rendered in #b3d, programming was done in #madewithunity.

Originally it was produced for the #OculusGo, but shortly before we finished it #Meta killed off the whole #3dof platform, so we didn't have a way to publish the app, resulting in a lot of extra work to make it work on other platforms.
