Quick sketch from a few nights ago. I've been longing to draw my original characters again, so I allowed myself to do something simple.

This is Candelaria, or 'Cande' for short. She/her. A young woman who lived a inconspicous life in her small town, until she began a secret affair with another lady, Magdalena (or 'Magda'). Ever since, her life has spiraled into something visceral, dark and melancholic—through no fault of her own or her partner.

After a traumatic event in which she was separated from Magda, she's been left to find sense about what happened that fateful night, and more importantly, learn what happened to her love. She will work with a bunch of unconventional group of characters, seeking answers for their own demons.

Originally, Cande was supposed to be skinnier, more on the chubby and curvy side. I still want her to retain her curvyness (partially modeled off my own body type), but I want her to be fatter. This is for two reasons:

It's not meant to be portrayed as something negative, per se. Like, socially, people look down at her for it, especially due to the decade she lives in (late 70's). She struggles to accept her new body. But her fatness isn't supposed to be a sign of personal growth (or the lack there of). She's gonna remain a similar weight as she heals.

Also, I just really like drawing fat characters. I like the diversity that can be found.

Apart from that, I tried to give her sun spots/sun damage in various parts of her body. She has had an array of jobs (inside and outside of home) that have required her to be under the sun for long periods of time; so naturally, her skin reflects that. And I've found out I have a fascination for sun spots/sun damage. They look really pretty (to me. Don't judge me, ok?).

One of her most recognizable traits is her long, curly hair. Her hair has a lot of sentimental, personal and familial value to her, so she rarely cuts it. This characteristic was inspired by my grandma, who has long, beautiful hair in her 80's. It's not as long as Cande's, nor the same texture, but I wanted to honor my grandma in some way. :3

The little wings in her head are for fun. I wanna add some supernatural aspects to my story, but I'm still not sure. So the wings can be taken as literally being on her head or a metaphorical/artistic aspect that is only noticeable to the viewer.

That's all I have for now. I wanna draw my OCs since I have soooo many ideas. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time, so it'll likely take a while before I get to them again. :(

Oh well.
