A couple of days ago, Randy was in the garage and raised the garage door. This was early in the evening. The first thing he saw was a magnificent gray fox sitting at the edge of the flat part of our upper driveway. Randy said it was a larger fox than any that we’ve seen before, with a long bushy tail. The fox didn’t budge until Randy spoke to it, then it trotted off.

Usually, we let Obie go in and out all day and night until last thing at night when we bring him inside for gushy food. For the past couple of months, we’ve kept him inside for the rest of the night after that. He’s settled into the routine and is doing well with it.

After seeing that fox so close by, we decided to keep Obie in for the rest of the night, even though it was hours earlier than we usually would.

Tonight, around 6:30 pm, Randy saw the fox in our back yard. He went outside to gently convince it to leave the yard. Obie was somewhere outside, so I called for him until he came to me and we’re keeping him inside again. Terribly worrisome to have him out there with such a large and bold fox hanging around.

Obie-Wan only showed up much later in the morning. He’s not pleased with having to be petted while he eats, but he tolerates it. We finally hit a food saturation point with him today as he left a few pieces of dry food behind and didn’t come around later in the day for more, though he still eats like a starved thing. You can see from the second photo that his left ear has been slightly chewed up on the edge. I suspect he’s had a hard time of it.
