Когда RuStore только запускался, мы строили дизайн на основе UI-кита от VK — удобно, практично, а главное помогло нам быстро вывести продукт на рынок. Но стор рос, интерфейсов становилось больше, дизайнеры — смелее, а требования — сложнее. И вот настал день, когда мы решили добавить тёмную тему. И всё сломалось. Именно тёмная тема вскрыла нашу главную проблему — ранняя структура цветовых токенов не готова к масштабируемости. Любое изменение запускало каскад правок и ломало синхронизацию между макетами и кодом. Под катом мы — Элина Шевченко, продуктовый дизайнер RuStore, и frontend-разработчик Андрей Едунов — расскажем историю, как мы полностью перестроили систему, не останавливая разработку, аккуратно вынесли всё из Figma в код и почему теперь можем масштабировать дизайн без драмы, даже если завтра понадобится не только тёмная тема, но и ностальгия по 2008-му, где primary — это чистый #000000, а secondary — оттенок тоски.

Vous savez quoi ? Au début, l'espace de couleurs #oklch n'a pas l'air du tout intuitif… et bah une fois qu'on s'y habitue, on se demande pourquoi on ne l'utilise pas depuis bien plus longtemps.

Il est beaucoup plus logique et prévisible, il faut juste se défaire de ses habitudes #rgb.

Just found out about the #Oklab color space and #Oklch and how they are already a part of #CSS. Very nice work.

Not sure if I'm up for the task technically or mathematically just yet, but at least conceptually, I'm thinking of creating a new 8-bit 256-color palette that is optimized for displaying the most amount of colors that the average human eye perceives. Oklab might well provide a good starting point for that.
