OCDSB delays closing kindergarten registration for alternative schools
Hours before parents were going to protest the plan to stop kindergarten enrollment at four alternative schools, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board said intake will be happening this year after all.

Report 25-041, Trustee Resignation and Appointment Process, Zone 9 and Zone 10 (J. Mark) - Board Meeting - June 23, 2025

This evening, Nili Kaplan-Myrth resigned as a trustee on the #OCDSB. I'm so proud of her for everything she accomplished, from winning her first campaign to the great work she did on the board representing her constituents and advancing the many causes that are close to her heart. She doesn't give up easily, so I'm also proud of her for knowing when enough is enough.

Here's her brief statement. Read her resignation letter on her blog at https://nilikm.ca/my-resignation-as-an-ocdsb-trustee/

Most schools at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board will offer English and French immersion programmes.

Opinion: This is a good start. *most* is not *all* though.

OCDSB approves French immersion and English in most schools | CBC News

Trustees voted 9-3 to streamline the board's programs down to English and French immersion starting September 2026 in one of the biggest changes to the OCDSB in decades.

The OCDSB's proposed redistricting of elementary schools—ostensibly to "keep children at their neighbourhood school"—will literally double my kid's commute and put them into a school two neighbourhoods away with many more crossings of major intersections. Outrageous! #Ottawa #ocdsb

OCDSB has announced the program changes and new school boundaries.

- Running Middle French Immersion and French Immersion concurrently for a few years will be confusing but will help keep kids in their current schools.
- School Board staff should de-acronym documents before releasing them to the public.

The Ottawa public school board, #OCDSB, is considering a complaint tonight against Trustee Donna Blackburn. After the OCDSB pulled out of participating in Capital Pride this summer, she made a series of comments to community members including one especially blatant antisemitic trope. The board investigated, and the report bends over backwards to recommend clearing her. Tonight, the Trustees vote on that report.

I think the link to stream it will be here when it starts: https://pub-ocdsb.escribemeetings.com/Players/ISIStandAlonePlayer.aspx?Id=a59a57ad-f64d-4b08-9434-07bdd0fd54d3

Last year there was a tie after many rounds of voting for the role of chair, and Trustee Scott won after a draw from a deck of cards, a last-resort rule in the bylaws. No such drama this year. Yet.

There was an election between two trustees for the chair of the budget committee, and Trustee Jennifer Jenikens won, a change from last year’s Trustee Lyra (apologies for spelling errors; i’m working on one screen here).

After that, they got into various other committees and I lost track. I did hear that the new trustee, Trustee Fortey, got a role. She recently won the race to replace Trustee Aziz when she resigned.
