Imagine if there was an algorithm. A kind of pulsing animation of pixels, that just so happened to cause a small but real percentage of people to have a psychotic break when they see it.

Like a fucking failed sanity roll in Call of Cthulhu, people might suddenly wake up, hours, days, weeks later having destroted their lives; lost their jobs, romantic partners and friends.

Now imagine that every major software vendor on planet earth was excitedly adding it as a feature everywhere. The most powerful nations of the world rewiring their economies around it as fast as they can, causing supply chain disruptions and economic upheavels. All in service to reproducing this lovecraftian mind destroying algorithm.

People would even begin lining up to pay for the privelege to see if they could be one of the lucky ones to enjoy the glowing pulsing pixels without loosing their minds.

This is our present. #AntiAI #NotAI

I've seen #GenAI slop-code and the application of LLMs to everything called our generation's "Abestos". OR comparing it to decades gone by, where we had no safeguards about uranium in commercial consumer grade products.

The thing is, it is so much more depressing and thoughtless than that.

Because we fucking know now what the dangers are, and yet we're doing it anyway. This catastrophe isn't born from ignorance or naivety.

It's born from a deep mass apathy towards the consequences; and a deep unwillingness to introspect about our own choices. #llm #AntiAI #NotAI

Again the thing that really burns me up about floss developers embracing LLM code generation; is that the tech really probes at heart of the question "what is a derived work?" at the center of copyright and all FLOSS software licenses.

It could quite literally (and some would say quite likely) become a tool in the next few years, to unmake all the legal protections that free and open source software have.

Yet folks keep merrily applying it to their projects. #AntiAI #NotAI #FLOSS
