I commend the idea of #Norwich local police meeting in a public open space with residents to discuss community engagement. This is what is required if you are to continue to police with the consent of the people.

And I imagine this won’t be a quiet poorly attended surgery after their arrest of 13 people last weekend for holding bits of handwritten card…while a huge anti-migration protest was whole heartedly facilitated.

900-year-old Norwich Castle reopens after a major £27.5 million revamp.

Towering above the city skyline, the keep was built by William the Conqueror and completed by his son, King Henry I, in 1121.

For centuries, it has loomed as a symbol of Norman power.

Now, the fortress has been reimagined as “The People’s Palace” with all five of its floors - from the basement to the battlements - open to visitors for the first time.

I was curious to see what #BBC Look East had reported on the protest…as their studios are literally within spitting distance of City Hall and the last arrest which I must have witnessed was outside the Forum where they are based.

They have literally just cobbled together press releases from Norfolk police the Met.

They felt no need to view this peaceful protest happening on their own doorstep with their own eyes…

Demonstrators arrested at Palestine Action event in Norwich

More than a dozen people with signs supporting the proscribed group are held at a Norwich protest.

BBC News

‘Police arrested 13 people at a protest in #Norfolk on Saturday on suspicion of showing support for the proscribed group Palestine Action.

A group assembled outside City Hall in St Peters Street, #Norwich, holding placards referencing the organisation, Norfolk police said. The force said they were arrested on suspicion of displaying an item in support of a proscribed organisation, contrary to section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.’

#Norwich on a summer Saturday always has a feel of festivity, indie crafts, protest and naked capitalism.

I usually love the way it’s everything to all people, all at once. And most of the time everyone gets along.

But today I felt sad. I witnessed intolerance.

A band was playing the Cranberries’ Zombie while a woman with Downs Syndrome happily danced in front of an appreciative crowd.

Less than 20 metres away police were arresting a young women for holding a handwritten sign.

Just re-posting my ai mockup because the far-right are hijacking flags in their anti-immigration protests again, to try to redress the balance. Not every Brit shares their opinion.
