Saturday of Norwescon was less busy for me, with most of my official duties taken care of. I got to hit most of one great panel with lawyers answering questions about SF/F situations (“If you give your name to a fae and then later change it for an unrelated reason, do they still own your name?”). Gave my presentation on digital accessibility for publishers and authors, which went really well; as usual, it was a small audience, but very interested, engaged, and appreciative. Then lots of wandering, dancing, and socializing until I crashed out at 2 a.m. Even took some photos with my “real” camera, which will get processed and posted eventually. Another good day! And now for the final day and heading home this afternoon.

#Norwescon Saturday had plenty of great cosplays in the halls. Thank you for sharing your cosplay skills with our social media team today!

I'm sorry to all the volunteers and panelists and guests who worked their asses off to make #Norwescon a wonderful and inviting event, only to have that effort ruined by carelessness and malice on the part of a few assholes.

But also I shouldn't have to bear that brunt, either. There were too many people who stood by and let that happen for me to feel like that event is a good use of my time and energy.

So I had to leave #Norwescon after being misgendered for the seventh time. I was looking forward to evening programming, but I can't handle this, and I shouldn't have to to be part of the community.

I won't be coming back for the last day, and I doubt I will be coming back in future years. There's some wonderful people and wonderful panels, but on the whole, this isn't an event that I'm welcome at.

Day two of Norwescon for me is almost entirely about the Philip K. Dick Awards. The attending authors have a panel in the afternoon, then a small private social, then a fancy dinner, followed by the award ceremony. Congratulations to M. R. Carey for winning this year’s award, and to Thomas Ha (who was here) for winning the special citation award! Then I spent the late evening bouncing between parties and the dance before crashing out about 1 a.m.

The topper of a staff seen in the dealers' room at Norwescon 29 in 2006, the first year I went to Norwescon. 20 years later, I'm now sitting in my hotel room at Norwescon 48 in 2026 (we lost a year to Covid, so the numbers seem off) as I prep the next few photos for this "photo a day from my archives" project.

#Norwescon Social Media team roamed the halls today, admiring cosplayers of all genres. Here are our "Cosplays in the Hall" for Friday. Thank you to all the amazing cosplayers we saw today. Pose for our social media team on Saturday, and get your own "I got social" ribbon.

Today’s daytime and early evening outfits for Philip K. Dick Award day at Norwescon. Electric sheep, and sprucing up (disinfecting?) for the dinner and ceremony.

Yesterday was Norwescon day one! A morning of helping to get things prepped, lunch and a necessary nap time, then the evening run of the opening ceremonies, providing music for the “how to fandom dance” panel, and them DJing the Thursday night dance. The dance went great! More people came than usual, they were having lots of fun, I got several really nice compliments, and enough people stuck around that we went half an hour past the official closing time. Had a blast! Hung out with people at a room party, and then crashed out about 2 a.m. (see why that nap was necessary?).
