UK Government Explores Northern England Hosting Olympics and Paralympics in the 2040s
The UK government has asked UK Sport to conduct an initial strategic assessment into the possibility of a northern England bid to host the Olympics and Paralympics in the 2040s. The study will evaluate whether the UK could host the Games again since London 2012, considering costs, socio-economic benefits, and likelihood of success. Public opinion in the UK has generally been positive regarding the legacy and investment impact of London 2012, though increased participation in sport was less successful than hoped. Officials remain optimistic that a northern bid could showcase the region’s capabilities and secure international approval.
