Winter Assembly

I snapped this image this morning of one of my bird feeders. Cold weather drives birds to seek extra energy, and they flock to the feeders when it’s low. Clearly, I need to refill this one. But it’s chilly out there—and since I took the photo through the glass of my storm door while wearing gym shorts and a T-shirt, I’m not stepping outside just yet.

Cardinal Gesture

I believe I took this image last spring or perhaps in early summer, when the grass was lush and vibrant. It features a pair of northern cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis), with the female seemingly offering a moth she captured to the male. The scene reminds me that spring is just 11 days away, yet my grass is still brown. However, I’m starting to notice hints of green here and there. Hopefully, there won’t be another freeze.

Winter's Red Jewels

I took this photo of these Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) this morning from inside my enclosed patio through a window. I could have gotten better images if I had gotten closer, but that would have meant going outside. If I had gone outside, the birds would have flown away, and I would have had to sit and wait for them to return. This morning is not the time for doing that—maybe later.
