Winter reawakens as the #PolarVortex unlocks a blast of cold air into #NewEngland

The #ArcticAir is coming back with a vengeance, surging south through the second half of January.

Excerpt: "For those of you who might think the winter cold is over, think again. We are about to enter very cold territory for an extended time, starting around Tuesday, thanks to the polar vortex again.
The polar jet stream, which is affected by the polar vortex above it, has become quite wavy, allowing Arctic air to infiltrate the United States over the next two weeks.

"An initial surge of cold air has already been blasting parts of the Central and Southern United States. Florida saw 30-degree weather on Friday, triggering freeze warnings in the area."

Why are there so many leaves falling? Is this an early autumn?

"Have you seen a lot of leaves turning colors or even falling off the trees this August? A lot of people on social media have posted about this subject during the last few weeks, asking, 'Is it an early fall?'

"Well... don't get out the pumpkin spice lattes just yet. Although astronomical autumn doesn't start until Sept. 22, more leaves are falling than usual this time of year due to drought, causing what scientists call "tree stress." Since the beginning of August, drought has developed in areas of #NewEngland, #NewYork, #Pennsylvania, and #NewJersey."

'#WickedHighTide:' Days of #CoastalFlooding in #NortheastUS not over yet

Streets were underwater and people had to slosh through sunken sidewalks as coastal flooding inundated parts of the Northeast since Thursday, and it's not over yet.
