NEW: Starting at 9 p.m. on 6/14, #RIDOT will temporarily close access to the Sayles Hill Rd intersection for drivers on Rte 146 S in #NorthSmithfield. The closure will be in place until 12pm on 6/15, and will allow RIDOT to safely lift steel beams as part of its ongoing construction of the new flyover bridge at Sayles Hill Rd.
Local access will be maintained for properties along the southbound service road adjacent to Rte 146. Rte 146 N through traffic will not be affected.
NEW: On 10/5 at 6PM, #RIDOT will temporarily close one lane on Rte 146N and detour traffic on Sayles Hill Rd where it meets Rte 146 in #NorthSmithfield. All roads will reopen by 10 a.m. on 10/6.
The following is a summary of changes expected:
Rte146N: All through traffic will be reduced to one lane and use a portion of the new flyover bridge that opened in May. The right lane will remain open for local traffic only to provide access to the residences and businesses along Rte 146N. Access to all residences and businesses will remain for the duration of the closure. There will be no access to Sayles Hill Rd. Drivers headed to Sayles Hill Rd toward Manville should use the Rte 99 or Rte 146A exits to detour. Drivers headed to Sayles Hill Rd toward Iron Mine Rd should use Rte 146A to detour.

NEW: On 5/31, #RIDOT will change the traffic pattern on Rte 146N at the Sayles Hill Road intersection in #NorthSmithfield. There will be a lane split approaching the intersection, with the left lane using a recently completed section of the new flyover bridge instead of stopping at the traffic signal.
Both lanes will be available for Rte 146N through traffic. Drivers should not suddenly change lanes at the split. All lanes go through.
Anyone wishing to turn right onto Sayles Hill Road, turn left toward Iron Mine Hill Road, or access businesses along the highway, will need to use the right lane and the existing traffic signal. RIDOT will maintain the dedicated left-turn lane at the traffic signal for drivers accessing the Anchor car dealerships, Iron Mine Hill Road or making a U-turn to reach businesses along the southbound side of Route 146.
The change does not affect Route 146S, or any other turning lanes onto or off of Route 146.
NEW: On 1/13/24, #RIDOT will close lanes at the Route 146 intersection with Sayles Hill Road in #NorthSmithfield. The closure will allow the Department to begin lifting steel beams as part of a new flyover bridge being built at the intersection. All lanes will reopen on 1/14.
The following detour will be in place during that time:
1/13 at 6 p.m.: One lane closed on Route 146 S. Sayles Hill Rd closed where it crosses Route 146. Drivers coming from Manville will use Route 99 to bypass the closure, reversing direction, if necessary, on Route 146 using the I-295 interchange. Drivers coming from Iron Mine Hill Rd will take a left at the Sayles Hill/Iron Mine Hill intersection (before the closed area) to rejoin the highway further north of the intersection.
1/13 at 8 p.m.: One lane closed on Route 146 N.
1/14 at 8 a.m.: All lanes open on Route 146 N.
1/14 at 10 a.m.: All lanes open on Route 146 South and Sayles Hill Rd reopens.
