Just watched Luke McManus' beautiful film #NorthCircular. What a great tribute to the northside of Dublin City and the people who live there - the history, the music, the heartache, the joy and most of all, the community.

Stonebridge again. 6 bridges (or 7, depending on how you count) within 250 metres. They carry 14 rail lines and a road to the postal depot over the North Circular and this slip road. #bridges #london #northcircular

Searching for the background to this building on the North Circular takes you down a long rabbit hole. This failed interior decoration store was lately owned by a man variously described as 'property developer' 'owner of vegetarian restaurant and healthfood shop', 'bee-keeper' and 'farmer'. Newspaper stories include a conviction for animal welfare offences, a failed defamation case (related to the previous matter), bee-keeping exploits, and the rescue of an historic pub in Dorset. The man needs a biographer.

At the time of liquidation, the company owed over £10,000 each to Miele and Siemens-Bosch, and over £400 to the minicab firm next door.

The new fence was erected on the orders of the local authority. The empty building was attracting trouble. No planning application has yet been submitted, so whoever owns it is biding their time.

Went to see #NorthCircular in the #QFT this evening - what a lovely little snapshot of North Inner city Dublin and the different communities that call it home. A total wee nostalgia trip for me too. Loved it! Thanks for the rec @tricksterworld
I'm extremely late to the party so #Mastodaoine in Belfast have missed it, but you might still catch it elsewhere - even if you don't know (or want to know) Dublin, if you're at all curious about people, I still think you would enjoy it

Movie 1/52 for 2023 (in the cinema). Definitely doing the 52 this year and I hope at least some of them are as good as this documentary about Dublin’s North Circular Road - a wonderful mix of music, social history, psychogeography. Something of a lament in parts but also a gesture of defiance against forms of development that would destroy culture.
