There's money in saying yes.
Mrs Wife and I haven't eaten or drunk indoors in public spaces since early 2020. We used to go out on date night every week. We can't be the only #Covid-conscious couple in town. The first pub to convince me that it was reasonably safe to unmask and eat indoors would get our custom.
But it's the same problem as low-radiation monitors in the 1990s: it's a tough sell, because it's a tacit admission that older monitors are dangerous and that even the newer ones might carry some risk. Same story here: "Eat at our pub and you have only a 1 in N chance of getting disabled by #LongCovid (or giving all your friends #norovirus), rather than 2 in N like the place over the road." It's cheaper and happier just to pretend the risk doesn't exist and we can hand-wash our way to safety. Fomites FTW!
