Question for the #Nordics #scandics #svensk What is the history of saffron in Sweden? Santa Lucia buns are obviously a thing but thinking mostly about swedish fish soup which is heavy on the saffron. There must be story about how something cheap (fish, presumably) ends up combined with something that must have been hideously expensive (the saffron) in what is presumably a celebratory but also a hearty dish with lots of options to supplement?

Also shout out to Borgeby Kryddgård in Bjärred who make a really good fish soup spice kit!

Nature sounds. Spring is slow and dredges on in the #nordics
The three-state border. The yellow concrete marker indicates where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet. It is just 15 km from Kilpisjärvi, and tourists flock here to see this spot on snowmobile safaris. While the surroundings are beautiful, the border marker itself is just a man-made rock. The noise from the snowmobiles disrupts the silence of the fjells and causes erosion and compaction of the ground. I have never understood the need to go into nature with motorized means if you are a tourist or hiker. It contradicts all the things nature has to offer you: silence, slowness, and the raw beauty of the Nordic wilderness. Also, you are disturbing the wildlife. For those who live here, it is a different story, of course.

Skiing with the clouds. Though hiding the view, skiing at the same level with clouds was magical. The beautiful vistas came through time to time and the clouds just added another beautiful layer to the whole experience.
