“Guovssahas” is the Sami word for Aurora Borealis which means “the light that you can hear.”
The Sami believe that the Northern Lights whisper messages from other worlds into the darkness It is said that the light rewards those who approach it with respect, but can bring punishment to the careless. Some claim to have heard the crackling or humming of the lights on quiet nights.
