Rather remarkably there appears to have been one positive effect from the crackdown on #nondoms by first #jeremyhunt and now #rachelreeves . House prices in #kensingtonandchelsea are now back to the 2013 level - reported in the #ft today. Apparently real - if relatively wealthy - people may be moving there from further out . A surprising benefit to #housing in #london - although possibly also a political lifeline for the #conservatives in the one #innerlondon borough they still control!

I find both interesting and of concern, that British distaste for all things foreign is driving away valuable contributors to society. The racist undertones during Brexit, badly timed with Covid, created an exodus of much needed East European cheap labour, including for example, many medical professionals. Today’s obsession with non-doms will harm the economy just as much. There are an estimated 70,000 non-doms in the UK, who collectively contribute 30% of the entire tax take, both directly in UK taxes paid and through the jobs they have created in their enterprises, the money they spend etc. This ‘political envy’ is akin to self-flagellation. The UK needs these people, the cheap labour and the high net worth entrepreneurs. The country needs to grow some tolerance and common sense before it throws the baby out with the bath water. #nondoms #brexit #uk #Starmer #britain
