I've found time to record the launch but it's not all good news. We still have the clatter in the "gearbox" when in gear but not under load. The noise disappears as soon as you add some revs. As you'll read at:
https://gregafloat.org.uk/safari/230902bssissues.php
and
https://gregafloat.org.uk/safari/230904launch.php
we now reckon that it's not the gearbox but the reduction gear that is producing the noise and that, we're told, is a problem as it's not a part still in production.

Working towards the Launch of our Hampton Safari

Re-examination for BSS Approval on our Hampton Safari.

Singing the Blues is launched. But the fault in the gearbox still exists after one engineer has had two goes at fixing it and a second a third go. No wonder the boat was being sold! I'll update

in the next day or two!

The History of Greg and Dian's Hampton Safari

The tank is back but still not fitted. The new tank has metric fittings. All the ancillary pipework now has to be changed to match the fittings. However, launch day is still to be Monday, when the work on the gearbox can be tested. The BSS Examiner will also call and, hopefully, issue a pass certificate. We can then pay the #BroadsAuthority toll and legally move the boat to our mooring in Colitshall on Tuesday.

Dropped in on the boatyard today to see what the arrangements were for the revisit of the BSS examiner. The fuel tank was still not connected. It had to be returned to the manufacturer to be rebuilt. The internal baffles had been fitted horizontally, but there was to be no bung for a fuel level sensor to be fitted, as we will rely on the existing dip stick built into the filler cap. Result: the dip stick couldn't reach the bottom of the tank!

No toots for a week then two come along on consecutive days!

Singing the Blues now has rudder issues. It's rather worn. That's hardly surprising given the boat is 45 years old,

This isn't the major disaster of the failed Boat Safety Examination, but a another unplanned cost nonetheless.

Welding and worn brackets support the rudder on our Hampton Safari.

It wasn't intended, but is turning out that way. As one of the subscribers to the GregAfloat mail list says:

Anyway, you are experiencing what I call the onion effect of restoring old "stuff". You peel and cry, peel and cry. But eventually you have enough onion rings to have a huge plate of fried onion rings! (You may not have experienced that delicacy, but if your cholesterol level allows it is delicious.)

It's been an intense couple of weeks of work on Singing the Blues. There's a 4000 word update at:

For those less inclined to read there's 21 photos to view.
The boats's insides have been stripped out to allow the fuel tank to be replaced. More issues have been found that our surveyor should have picked up, but we hope we're within sight of being launched before the end of September. I've even begun to clean the outside!
