Finished Nobunaga the Fool, and what a wild ride that series was. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it before. An odd mashup of history, mythology, mysticism, and giant robots, with over the top characters and a story which seems to go all over the place, yet it was really fun to watch and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

With only a few episodes remaining, I think what I like most about Nobunaga the Fool is how over the top it is. It throws everything at the wall from Eastern and Western history and legends and mixes them together. Sure, I like the story and characters too, but the way the series just mashes things up with reckless abandon is endlessly entertaining. I can't wait to see how it all ends.

Well the character I can't stand in Saint Tail actually seems to be getting a little less annoying, now that another character has been introduced who can put him in his place. I hope this trend continues.

And after a slow start, Nobunaga The Fool is really starting to pick up as I get near the halfway point, so I'm really getting into it now. And I kind of want Leonardo da Vinci's tarot deck. I don't know how to use the cards, but I like the designs on the ones shown in the series so far.

Nobunaga the Fool is an odd mashup of figures from Eastern and Western history and legends tossed into a sci-fi world with mysticism and giant robots. I am enjoying it so far, even if I still haven't been able to connect with any of the characters yet after eight episodes.

I do like Jeanne d'Arc and Himiko, and Leonardo da Vinci is great, but I am certain that he hasn't revealed all of his cards yet, so to speak. (He carries a tarot deck, for those unfamiliar with the series.)

It's an unusual series, and I don't think it's like anything I've seen before, at least as far as the setting and how things have played out so far.

Here's what's next from my anime backlog:

First up is a magical girl series from the 1990s: Saint Tail. I first found out about it many years ago, but only added to my collection recently. I've heard that it's something of a hidden gem of the genre, so I'm looking forward to watching it!

I'm also watching a series that I completely forgot I had until I was scanning my shelf for what to watch next: Nobunaga the Fool. Several years ago I got it from a friend of mine who thought I might enjoy it. I don't know anything about it, except that Jeanne d'Arc seems to be involved somehow, so I'm getting kind of an alternate history/fantasy vibe from what little I know. We shall see! I saw Shoji Kawamori's name in the creative staff though, so it's probably good.
