The next season of the Play to Find Out podcast on the Quinns Quest patreon is them trying to play and make sense of _Nobilis_ and I am so down for that.

Squeeee!

Stepping outside our usual bailiwick, today we discuss Josh's other favorite TTRPG: Dr. Jenna Moran's Nobilis! Despite its rarefied and esoteric subject matter, we see parallels with Changeling (and other WW games) and thus felt it worthy of exploration. Questions ensue and some even get answered as we flip pages, so join us, won't you? The Power of Podcasting has ordained it. 🌺

episode 113 — nobilis – Changeling the Podcast

@thoughtpunks The #ArsMagica magic system was another favourite #TTRPG mechanic - especially structure of five techniques (verbs) and 10 forms (nouns) for magic (all in Latin of course), and the option to cast spontaneous magic (i.e. effects made up on the fly based on your techniques and forms, rather than being limited to a spell list like many other systems). I've since had fun with other games with freeform magic/miracles (e.g #MageTheAscension, #Nobilis) but Ars Magica was first I'd seen.

Every so often I remember that Jenna Moran is working on Nobilis 4th edition and that makes the world a bit more bearable.

I mean, yes, as far as I am aware there hasn't been an update on that in over a year, but I can see it taking shape, slowly, somewhere in the dark. There is quiet music in the background, whispers of greatness and a donkey eating a carrot (but it is actually a carrot-shaped cake). The donkey denies being magical, but his accent seems unfamiliar.

@mhd I wish; the first edition in the little Salmon Book was pretty close: straightforward, easy to understand, well-written, not overly up its own butt in terms of presentation.

It was always my favorite edition of the rules.

For the "things I mustn't do" pile: #pathfinder but after the PCs pass a mythic trial you instead rebuild them in #nobilis

Nobody asks for #Nobilis 2nd edition reading lists these days, and well they shouldn’t - it’s been out of print for years if not decades. But that being said, The Lathe of Heaven is absolutely on the reading list that exists outside time and entropy as an example of how The Light is also led by monsters.

Good news everybody !!

@Da_Gut Cool :-) (and reminds me of the style of the evocative micro-fiction in the 2nd edition of the #Nobilis #RPG)

An #introduction... Living in the UK and posting here on #RPG / #TTRPG and maybe other game-related topics.

Played #RPGs since the 1980s, starting with red box D&D. Since enjoyed varieties of #GURPS, #AmberRPG, #MageTheAscension, #Nobilis, #ArsMagica, #FateRPG, #FiascoRPG, and more. Tastes now lean towards narrative and lightweight over simulation and complexity.

Current "to try one day" list includes Powered By The Apocalypse (#PbtA), Forged In The Dark (#FitD) and #GumshoeRPG. One day...
