No Other Choice Review - Pop Culture Maniacs

A man takes desperate action to make himself the best available employee in the paper industry in Park Chan-wook's dark satire No Other Choice.

Coffee and a nice read of my book in the Filmhouse café bar (one of my favourite spots), then a screening of No Other Choice, which I've been looking forward to. Not a bad way to spend a day off ...

#EV charging is a total crapshoot in #AnnArbor; had to shimmy into the last spot and fold my mirrors to be able to get out of my car, all for 8kW from the charger that gave me 60 the other night when I needed more time while watching 2h19m of #NoOtherChoice at the #MichiganTheater!

Thanks to #KapnickOrchards for braving the #cold as one of only two vendors at the #FarmersMarket today! And to #BaoSpace for amazing lunch while I waited to charge. And #YourMediaExchange for this #KLF #vinyl score!

#Movies . . .

I don't walk out of movies that I paid to see very often -- in fact, I haven't done so in decades -- but I just did it.

Bought a ticket to see #NoOtherChoice a #Korean language #DarkComedy film at my local #AMC that got good reviews but I just thought it was ridiculous.

The movie is about a guy who gets laid off & devises a scheme to kill off his competition for a new job that he has targeted.

I hung in there as long as I could but I left about 2/3 of the way thru. So, obviously, I can't recommend it.

If I have to give it a rating, I'd give it a 2 out of 10.

Best movie I have seen in years
Brilliant!
Knowing the logline when I went into #NoOtherChoice did absolutely nothing to prepare me for one of the most unpredictable, out there movies I've ever seen. Only a director of serious calibre would go for so many tonal shifts; Park Chan Wook really is a total genius. And, it's got to be said, Byung Hun Lee's still totally got it.
