The Peoples Blockade of Newcastle Port begins!

A great turn out, amazing energy, and anecdotal reporting that a coal ship has been delayed! ✊

A completely OTT police response (the cops have their own special operation for this activity) and only two 'pro coal' counter protesters seen so far.

Greens say they will use the minor party’s bargaining power in a hung parliament to demand that federal energy and climate minister Chris Bowen use existing powers under the federal Safeguard Mechanism to put a “hard cap” on pollution from new coal and gas mines.

Why protesters spent Easter weekend suspended in coal carts

Climate activists say this is only the first step in resisting the fast-tracked mining expansion.

The Spinoff

“We have set up outside the Brunswick Mechanics Institute opposite Brunswick Town Hall, calling for no new coal and gas. Both Labor and Coalition will keep expanding coal and gas that is causing temperatures to rise, increased floods, bushfire and heatwaves. You humans need to vote for the planet and other species, including us. Vote first preference for candidates committed not to approve new fossil fuels.” - Indiana Jones and Juliet 🐶🐶

@raymondpert The world needs that gas to stay in the ground, to limit global warming.

CPAWS #Alberta opposes the new #Coal Industry Modernization Initiative (CIMI). While it claims to protect waters, it leaves room for controversial projects like #GrassyMountain & Mine 14. CIMI prioritizes industry over public consultation, risking habitat areas. People in Alberta protested before & they/we will protest again to protect the Rockies, ecosystems, & the water that is used for drinking, irrigation, & food processing 🌲💧#NoNewCoal #SaveOurMountains #CPAWS

Hey Toto, first dog of the nation, can you give your dad Prime Minister Albanese a nip to say Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek approving 3 new coal projects the Thursday before Christmas is just so wrong? Give Tanya a nip too, if you see her.

Boggabri, Caval Ridge and Lake Vermont Meadowbrook coal mine extensions will produce more than 880 million tonnes of carbon emissions over their lifetime, close to two times Australia’s domestic emissions from all sources in 2023.

And Tanya Plibersek has the hide to berate the Abbott Government over coal project approvals? Come on.

Three of the five projects approved under the EPBC Act today (19 Dec) were the coal projects.

She is trolling us all! Environment Minister? Maybe Minister for Coal Approvals adding to global warming against the science and putting us all in danger: humans and your children, companion animals like us, and the many wild animals and ecosystems.😡

Federal Labor Government should be ashamed. You were elected to update National environment laws, a mandate for climate action, instead 3 new coal projects in September with 1.4 billion tonnes of lifecycle climate pollution, and these 3 projects with 880 million tonnes of lifecycle climate pollution. - Juliet and Indiana Jones 🐶🐶
