NEW YORK -- "Indigenous women around the world are battling #FossillFuels, #mining, #exploitation and #oppression. The abuse of #MotherEarth is directly connected to the violence against Indigenous women.

"Women's Earth and #ClimateAction Network International hosted Indigenous women on panels during the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues on Wednesday.

"Osprey Orielle Lake, WECAN executive director, opened the session calling for a #ceasefire in #Gaza, an end to the oppression, and return of the hostages. 'The killing must be stopped now,' she said.

"Indigenous women speak on the struggles, from the battle to halt the #MountainValleyPipeline and protect their burial places, to #Anishinaabe protecting the water and animals around the #GreatLakes and the battles against mining in the #Amazon, #Ecuador, #Colombia, #Brazil and #Peru."

#ApacheStronghold: Rare Request Gives Federal Court One More Chance to Protect #SacredSite

WASHINGTON - "A coalition of Western Apaches and allies today asked all 29 judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to protect their sacred site at #OakFlat from destruction by a mining project. In Apache Stronghold v. United States, a special 'en banc' panel of eleven judges split 6-5 earlier this year, refusing to stop the federal government from transferring Oak Flat to #ResolutionCopper, a foreign-owned #mining company that plans to turn Oak Flat into a massive mining crater, ending #Apache religious practices forever.

"Today’s appeal gives the full court one more chance to protect the spiritual lifeblood of the Apache people before the case goes to the Supreme Court.

"Since time immemorial, #WesternApaches and other Native peoples have gathered at Oak Flat for sacred religious ceremonies that cannot take place anywhere else. Known in Apache as Chi’chil Biłdagoteel, Oak Flat is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been protected from mining and other harmful practices for decades. These protections were eliminated in December 2014 when a last-minute provision was inserted into a must-pass defense bill authorizing the transfer of Oak Flat to the Resolution Copper company. Resolution Copper is a foreign-owned mining company that plans to turn the sacred site into a two-mile-wide and 1,100-foot-deep crater. The majority owner of Resolution Copper, #RioTinto, sparked international outrage when it deliberately destroyed 46,000-year-old #Indigenous rock shelters at one of #Australia’s most significant cultural sites."

"Not far away, in Farmington, New Mexico -- a bordertown with a long history of crimes against #NativeAmericans -- a new epicenter of fake green energy projects emerges.

"The tribally-owned #NavajoTransitionalEnergyCompany is ready to rush in, get the drilling permits, drill, and poison the water, just a stone's throw from Hualapai's sacred hot spring.

"Vern Lund, the CEO, of the so-called 'transitional energy company' signed a formal agreement with Australia's Arizona Lithium in March, which includes joining its board. Lund is already on the board of another mining company in Texas.

"The fact is, the Navajo enterprise owns four #CoalMines, among the most polluting industries in the world. It's a fact the new green energy company seldom mentions, and is polluting the Rocky Mountain region. It owns both the Antelope coal mine and #CorderoRojo coal mine in Wyoming, the #SpringCreek coal mine in Montana, and the #NavajoMine on the Navajo Nation."
