Ko-Fi really wants me to make an account on the hell site, but I’m drawing a line in the sand.

As a disabled and omnisexual creator, I refuse to spend my energy in a place that feels increasingly hostile to my communities just for the sake of self promotion. I believe we can build successful brands right here on the #Fediverse without compromising our ethics or our safety. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ ♿️

I made the mistake of glancing over at The Other Site to see how the collapse is going, and phew it's a lot. Between the dirty screen, the exhortation to vote for Republicans, the continued banning of parodies... it's really a speed run.

It's also apparent at this point that one cannot meaningfully use Twitter without knowing who Musk is... policy is whatever his whims are, so that's simply a part of posting there now.

I think there's even good arguments to be made there, honestly. E-mail has some practical differences and those matter! My frustration is that people are making arguments that don't take those differences into account, and are effectively throwing the baby out with the bathwater by implicitly arguing that e-mail is somehow inherently bad because federation is bad.

I'm happy to make that shift, though, given how helpful it can be.

At the same time, I'm not sure I'll ever find the same power for myself, at least not in those words. Those kinds of labels have far too often been used to hurt rather than to heal.

That makes it hard for me, watching analysis of power shifting to reclaim those labels.

I want to say a few words about labels and neurodiversity.

Recently, I've seen a lot of friends and family finding a lot of power in self-describing as autistic, ADHD, or similar. It's amazing to see how much that can help people. πŸ’•

In part, it's a huge shift for me, because "autistic" and "ADHD" have been thrown in my face a lot as accusations rather than descriptions, as pathologies rather than empathy.
