#ChatControl is OFF the table for now. 💪

But the Danish Minister of Justice and chief architect of the current Chat Control proposal, Peter Hummelgaard, wants to bring it back in December.

😡 He now even claims your activism was paid for by Big Tech! 😡

We must keep fighting for #encryption and our right to #privacy 🔒️

India first democracy to ban encrypted messaging apps on massive scale.

Only days before Press Freedom Day, India banned apps for secure communication because of "terrorists" use.

#India banned encrypted apps @briar @element & @threemaapp based on the argument that these apps would be used by "terrorists".

This makes India the first democracy to act like Russian or Iranian autocrats.

The UK Online Safety Bill threatens security online and freedom of speech. Together with Access Now, The Tor Project, Phil Zimmermann and others we have signed an open letter to call on the UK government to amend the Online Safety Bill. 💪🔒

Open Letter on Online Safety Bill

The UK Online Safety Bill has been heavily criticised by privacy groups and legal experts. In an Open Letter we call for privacy-preserving changes.

The EU Commission is planning automatic CSAM scanning of your private communication – or total surveillance in the name of child protection. This would be the worst surveillance apparatus outside of China:

This would be the worst surveillance apparatus outside of China, and completely disproportionate.

Encrypted messages are under attack: The crypto wars continue.

The German Ministry of the Interior wants to force WhatsApp, Threema and Apple to decrypt encrypted messages. But a backdoor for the "good guys" only is impossible.

A backdoor is a vulnerability by definition. When Politicians demand backdoors to encryption, they are not asking us to choose between security and privacy. They are asking us to choose no security: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/why-a-backdoor-is-a-security-risk

Global Encryption Day: Any backdoor would do more harm than good.

By demanding encryption backdoors, politicians are not asking us to choose between security and privacy. They are asking us to choose no security.

@Tutanota Makes sense they would pull the "Think of the children." argument. That seems to come up any time a government is trying to persuade you to give up your rights. They know most voters are parents and are vulnerable to this sort of propaganda.
@Phracker2Art @Tutanota fuck them kids, thats what i say. you cant just shield children from every single type of problem ever and then expect them to just deal with it when they turn 18 and are dropped into this shitstorm called adulthood
@Tutanota The EU can go fuck it's self
@Tutanota If there's a backdoor for anyone there's a backdoor for everyone.
Fuck the EU, idiots classify tech sites as NSFW,?

@Tutanota that’s literally what x-rays and metal detectors are for. Yes, your clothes have to be “see-through” for a small number of people to make sure you aren’t carrying a bomb or something.

You people are so paranoid and distrustful

@erf456
X-Rays are limited in time and space, doesn't log what they see, informations doesn't travel everywhere, they can't be used when you walk on the streets, etc. I'm sorry, but I think you don't really understand how absolutely disproportionate, problematic, deeply worrying and easily abusable a mass surveillance on everyone communications is.
@Tutanota
@erf456 @Tutanota > mastodon.social user

the point here is not x-rays or body scanners or etc, because those are not constantly watching you, it's a metaphor to help you understand how invasive and totalitarian mass surveillance is
@Tutanota It's depressing, but I fear the world is destined to reach a point where every country adopts something like that. We're destined to have increasingly less privacy over time. Maybe this will stop when/IF people wake up and start caring about these issues.
@barbarozza @Tutanota most people believe they have nothing to hide so freely share all manner of information without a second thought.
@onthefencedev @Tutanota Those saying "I hAvE nOtHiNg To HiDe!" fail to realize that it's not about hiding, it's about protecting.
@Tutanota very good comic on #chatcontrol
we have to stop this #masssurveillance madness
@Tutanota also very good article on #chatcontrol with good german statistics on how surveillance is not used to focus on child abuse crimes at all (0.1%)
Very nice comic from smbc-comics.com posted by @Tutanota about #chatcontrol
ps.: added full description in image caption for #a11y
@mihira @Tutanota thank you for that! (Not for me personally, but for others on the Fediverse) 🙂
@badrihippo @Tutanota I am trying to keep my boosts as accessible as possible, and this comic was too good to not be well captioned.
@Tutanota
yes and that's why I'm a naturist
I'm all for protecting kids, too many fucked up people in the world. But govt can't seem to protect the data they have now. This is just screaming to be abused
@Tutanota i strongly believe that, before any government passes any law affecting technology in any fucking way, at least 1 cybersec expert, 1 tech enthusiast, one online privacy advocate and 1 regular internet user must be consulted. if they point out that said law is, in fact, absolutely fucking retarded, the law should not pass.
@Tutanota While they're watching us, who's watching them?
@Tutanota Great they just took note out of Apple's playbook 😠 💢
@Tutanota >Tutanota posting SMBC
oh no

@Tutanota it's a bit long to read but searching the .pdf at page 27 i see a mention regarding security with regard to third parties, so they did not _completely_ ignore it.

I agree that basically spying on _everyone_ is not proportional to preventing _some) grooming cases. (in _one_ of the chains of the chain of events leading to child abuse)

@Tutanota yup without privacy there cannot be liberty. The constitution and bill of right try to provide citizens protection of their privacy for that reason but the future seems to be totalitarian and scary.
@Tutanota This is incredibly bad news...and an absolute attack on privacy by the EU. It could end up leaving kids open, since they won't be able to protect their messages s if they are reporting someone. The same goes for "whistleblowers" and journalists. Bad Idea!
