Okay, with Nix of Nothing beginning Chapter 18 on the comic's site, and the ebook for Chapter 18 available from two different stores, I went ahead and read it.

After reading Chapter 17, I said it felt like only part of a chapter. It was short, takes place over a single scene, and ended on a cliffhanger.

Chapter 18 feels like the middle of a chapter: it's also short and continues the same scene as Chapter 17. And it doesn't look like that scene is over. I'm rather confused as to why this new character is getting so much attention, but I trust @MLeeLunsford knows what they're doing and it will make sense when I read Chapter 19.
