Found a fun little piece on the three-card tarot spread used in Nightmare Alley. This makes a very nice companion to the scene where it shows up. As the author mentions, it was nice to see a tarot reading depicted this way in a film. Usually it becomes all too clear that the writer/director have no idea what the fuck they are representing.

I watched del Toro's #NightmareAlley yesterday, and it was quite the film.

It's deceptively simple, I think. I saw some person's review of it where they complained that "deceit is bad"—what they assumed to be the message of the film—was pretty weak sauce.

Which would be true if that's what the film was saying, and if it was a parable with a simple truism at its core.

Fortunately it's not, but I sorta see how someone who didn't try to look below the surface could see it that way.
