Sadly, the list of species that went #extinct due to human influence has been expanded by one entry: The #SlenderBilledCurlew, a migratory #bird once native to Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula, has been officially declared extinct.
Recently, however, there also have been some good news regarding the #conservation of #endangered #birds, such as the rediscovery of the #NightParrot and the #JerdonsCourser.
So, it's not impossible that the enigmatic slender-billed curlew might still have survived somewhere - regardless, my heart bleeds for any #animal facing #extinction because of humans, and it will take an active effort to prevent more species from suffering this fate.

Rangers and scientists thrilled as they find the largest known population of one of Australia’s rarest birds, the night parrot, living in Great Sandy desert

Once thought to be extinct for 100 years – and currently listed as Critically Endangered – the night parrot (Pezoporus occidentalis) is one of modern Australia’s most elusive creatures.

With the chances of ever finding a night parrot in the wild so incredibly rare, the best chance of seeing one up close is to view a specimen - and the Western Australian Museum is home to the best-preserved whole specimen on display anywhere in the world.
