After buying the essential Asian groceries at Cardiff, we assembled a supermarket picnic, caught the train to Newcastle, and found a picnic table on the side of the Hunter River. A lovely spot to sit and slowly graze into the late afternoon. Photos from near sunset after we had packed up.
Yesterday we caught the bus to the dreaded Charlestown, on a mission. We'd not been to Young Asian grocery since they moved from Jesmond, and also had never been to Parydeise (Persian grocer).
Sorted that now, both are marvellous and Charlestown isn't so bad if we dodge the main debacle as much as possible – e.g. just use the loos and grab a maki roll each on the way to lunch which was Indian at Cooks Hill.
Picked up Miss Completely's favourite snack, fermented bean curd flavoured peanuts. I don't know if anyone else in Newcastle sells them. Very tasty.
Came away from Parydeise with a load of jars, of course, but also split broad beans. I use the little brother, split fava beans, quite a lot in various things, but I don't recall ever seeing these. I asked what they're used for and now know about Dam Pokhtak so that's on a future menu.
Brought to us by the bus numbers 273, 269, 14, and a train home.

The HVO expansion project is the largest coal project proposed in NSW history. The Minns Labor Government's own Net Zero Commission said last year the government can't approve any more coal if it's going to meet its own legislated emissions targets. We're calling on the government to oppose this project and urgently fund the transition and support workers in the Hunter. Photographer: @livecreativlee @willshanananahan".

The Independent Planning Commission decides on HVO’s expansion this June/July - and they can only make the right call if they hear from YOU. If you’re in the Hunter, take the survey today and tell us how coal pollution has impacted your life. #linkinbio".

Trying to break a siege and alleviate a humanitarian crisis. Thanks to all the dedicated people who came out tonight in support of the courageous political activists who have been detained by Israel - in particular @zack_scho from Newcastle.".
Went to Poetry at the Pub last night, mainly to support a friend who was performing as the feature poet (and she was fab).
Figured if i was there anyway, i should read some of my poems in the open sets. So i read 3. Usually hard on myself but i totally kicked arse!
Also signed up to be a member of the poetry group. And had a great time listening to the poetry and meeting people. Awesome night.
