@shriramk #NewZealnd wind up winning by 8 wickets. No upset here.

Emily Keeble at Palaeocast has just produced a great interview about rhynchocephalians with Dr. Victor Beccari, a Brazilian paleontologist who works on them. The tuatara of Aotearoa / New Zealand is the only living rhynchocephalian, but they were much more diverse in the Mesozoic.

Second time in as many days someone at Shakespear Regional Park just goes off track into the bush. Like, FFS, you are not special, the rules apply to you like they do to everyone else. Can you read the signs? Today, some shithead was climbing on an old Puriri tree across a stream, probably trying to get some dumbass picture for his fkn TikTok.

Of course I told him to stay on the tracks. There's kauri dieback in the park.

SO. I. RATE.

Spoted my favourite #aotearoa #newzealnd bird, a hihi, at zealandia today. It is my favourite because one of them once made me sat outside a nest box in the rain for a couple of hours. #birds female (I think) hihi on a hangehange plant eating from the small flowers.

Spike in kids hospitalised ahead of RSV, Covid and whooping cough winter peak

"A large number" of children are already in hospital with respiratory conditions, and it's likely to get worse as cold weather hits.

Stuff

I don't know if it would have any impact but one of the reasons why trying to move to another is hard. States see immigration as a way to attain workers and so don't want those they deem undesirable. I hate borders.

quote from new York times.
"Australia and New Zealand routinely reject migrants on the basis of their health care needs, leaving families with one ill member in a legal limbo.
People have been turned away with conditions like autism, obesity, intellectual disability, lupus and MS"

this is not something special to these countries. many countries do this. if I remember it there was a family in Canada facing deportation because a family member had autism.

borders are a tool to enforce bigotry.

For Many Disabled People, a Battle to Stay in Australia or New Zealand

The two countries are outliers in routinely rejecting potential migrants on the basis of medical needs, leaving families with one ill member to struggle in a legal limbo.
