New here, and by that I mean that this is a brand new instance. Single user GoToSocial instance, self-hosted on my own hardware; this is not my first. It's just like that scene from the Matrix with the Architect: we just keep torching it and starting over, and we're starting to get pretty damned good at torching it. I've had a WriteFreely instance before, and I think I might have another one here in the near future, honestly. GED in 2011 at 17; no qualifications otherwise, at least literally on paper. No human children; cat dad, though. NixOS diehard on desktop/server. The host machine for the VM for this server, as well as the VM itself, both run NixOS and always will. Currently using Niri on the host machine and loving it. GrapheneOS diehard on mobile. Love projects, especially the kind that are never finished because they're never supposed to be. Grew up in Oregon and moved to New Mexico with my family when they did. I ride a unicycle. Trying to learn violin. These things don't necessarily have anything to do with each other, I hope. For the #MedMastodon community - I'm sending out an e-mail now, unfortunately despite repeated attempts since the 5th Jan of this year we've been unable to get control of the domain from the original founder of the site. With that in mind and to ensure the site does not just fall off the internet without warning in the future, we're announcing the closure of med-mastodon.com and are asking all active and registered users to migrate to a new server as soon as it is practical to do so. We have a new GoToSocial server setup to allow for imports of historic posts as well as our existing Mastodon servers that folks are more than welcome to join (Details on the e-mail). We will keep the med-mastodon site running throughout March as a minimum and hopefully everyone will have migrated by this time but we will keep a close eye and if needed can renew the site for an additional month to facilitate migrations. Sorry for the rubbish news, there is not a whole lot more we can do :(

I’m currently working on a new project: cupertino.social - a future home for the Apple community here on the decentralized web.

I’m building this because I believe we need a space that combines the elegance of the Apple ecosystem with the ethical soul of the Fediverse. A place for those who love the "Unix heart" of their devices and value privacy as a fundamental right.
