One of my favorite things about going to the #NewEnglandFreejacks home opener yesterday (besides #OldGloryDC winning!), was the stadium experience. It really felt like the whole community was there, with kids doing their homework on the picnic tables by the pitch, and people trickling in throughout the match, paying cash for tickets.
I think a lot of it had to do with the stadium being in the middle of Quincy, so it’s just there for people to go to on a whim. This contrasts sharply with the venues that Old Glory have played at (with the exception of Catholic University in their first season), where they’ve always been fairly out of the way, so the only people who show up are real #rugby fans who are willing to go out of their way (like me).
This was much better. I would love it if Old Glory found a pitch in DC on the Metro. No reason they couldn’t have a similar stadium experience. #MLR
