We did see 'health'-associated taxa increase in abundance post-therapy. There seemed to be a persistent difference in diversity between control group and PID group. We also observed interesting correlations with blood absolute #neutrophil counts and certain oral bacteria. This is certainly worth exploring further as these bacteria are part of the 'hedgehog' consortia in the dental plaque - dynamics are relevant for oral health in general. /end

Repeated stress to the skin amplifies neutrophil infiltration in a keratin 17- and PKCα-dependent manner

Neutrophils contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases, but the mechanisms underlying their recruitment to inflamed skin are unclear. This study shows that repeated acute stress to the skin amplifies a neutrophil infiltration response involving keratin 17 and PKCα.

If you’re into #immunometabolism this one’s for you! My fellow Yoder Lab member, Emma Hepworth, will be talking about her work assessing how #PFHxA and #GenX affect #neutrophil metabolism. Find her tomorrow/Tuesday at poster 1.05.P-Tu-006!

Single cell spatial analysis reveals inflammatory foci of immature neutrophil and CD8 T cells in COVID-19 lungs - Nature Communications

Mathematical tools can be used to help identify pathological features from images of diseased lungs. Here, the authors used mathematical tools combined with high resolution multiplex imaging mass cytometry to show an association between immature neutrophils, CD8 T cells and proliferating alveolar epithelial cells in areas of maximal alveolar damage in COVID-19 lungs.

To migrate efficiently, neutrophils must polarize their cytoskeletal regulators along a single axis of motion. @JasonPTown & @OWeinerLab use spatially-defined #optogenetic control of a leading edge organizer to explore how #neutrophil-like cells balance “decisiveness” (needed to polarize in one direction) with flexibility (to respond to new cues) #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3ZAldnx
Local negative feedback of Rac activity at the leading edge underlies a pilot pseudopod-like program for amoeboid cell guidance

Ginger Consumption May Mitigate Neutrophil Dysfunction

An oral ginger extract was associated with reduced action of the neutrophil activity associated with the development of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

@gpollara It also raises the question, whether phagocytosing capabilities and surface markers are really correctly attributed already...and if we might need an update of our classification system for inflammatory states also... #macrophage #neutrophil

"As expected, early on-target recognition of melanoma antigens by tumor-specific CD4+ T cells was required. Surprisingly, complete tumor eradication was dependent on neutrophils and partly dependent on inducible nitric oxide synthase."

T cell immunotherapies engage neutrophils to eliminate tumor antigen escape variants

The eradication of antigenically heterogeneous tumors by T cell immunotherapies requires neutrophils.

Nice little study this, using SNPs in CCL19 & CCL21 linked with higher levels of these chemokines associated with greater #COVID19 infection and mortality.

Wonder if there's a mechanism. Greater #Neutrophil chemotaxis 👉 tissue pathology?
