#SuddenHearingLoss changes your life profoundly. It is a by product of many factors including #Diabetes and #HeartDisease. Mine was further exacerbated by my many years in the #MusicBiz (live and in the studio). #Neurologists will try desperately in the early days to reverse it with #steroid injections into your inner ear(s), but the window closes quickly before it becomes permanent. Living in silence (with some whooshing in the background) can be lonely, but BS free too.https://www.theguardian.com/society/ng-interactive/2026/mar/11/deaf-hard-of-hearing-asl-personal-essay?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
At 56, I woke to silence: the strange, sudden loss that changed everything

Since the US has no federal mandate for hearing aid coverage, I found myself in a quandary – I couldn’t communicate with the hearing or the deaf

I just returned from a transformational week with the #UCSF #GBHI cohort at the #MAC. Here is a photo of the group after the Salon on Fairness, a wonderful presentation about how we might think about justice in relation to brain health. It was inspiring being among #neurologists, #psychiatrists, and #writers all committed to bringing about a world where brain health is a human right.

I've been listening to lectures and talks from #Neurologists who hold PHDs in their field of study.

I think I need to go get a PHD in #neurology because I understand absolutely everything they say because I studied it for a decade straight trying to figure out my own bullshit.

"That face: the profound indifference of a man who truly does not care about other human beings."

It's also the face of #dementia. What kind? Perhaps #FTD (frontotemporal dementia) which often presents as apathy and a lack of empathy. Any #neurologists out there care to weigh in?

Let Them Eat Nothing

A White House press conference that defied parody—and reveals something much deeper about the Trump administration.

"The President doesn't sleep." https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/stephen-miller-wife-admits-t-155114619.html

#Trump's disordered sleep is nothing to crow about; it can signal disease. #Neurologists explain: "Recently, a growing body of evidence has supported a role of disruption of the sleep-wake cycle in disease development, pathological changes and abnormal protein accumulation in neurodegenerative diseases, especially in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. (Ageing & Neurodegenerative Diseases, 2022).

Brain Implants That Don’t Leave Scars

Traumatic brain injuries vary in severity from mild to life-threatening, but neurologists have limited tools to assess the damage.

The Good Men Project

Many doctors -- #neurologists, #psychiatrists, you name it -- have been concerned about this for a long while. The man is cognitively impaired and has been for years. It's called the prodromal phase, and the #disease has been percolating. Anyone who knows anyone with #dementia knows he is ill. Okay #NYT, now's the time to have your opinion writers say why (or why not) Trump shouldn't be president.

Trump, 79, Sparks Dementia Concerns With Weird Cold War Comment

The president’s brain seems to be stuck in the 1980s.

The Daily Beast

#Trump on his 10-year old cartoon drawing of a woman's body w/a really creepy inscription in it: "I never wrote a picture." He's right, technically, no one writes a picture, you draw one. He's telling a truth but lying @ the same time.

The relation btw. his word-finding difficulties & whatever kind of #dementia he has is something else. I wonder if #neurologists have studied the effects of relentless lying on the #hippocampus. IOW, lying as a cause of dementia.

Last, I am profoundly aware of my lack of expertise in the incredibly complicated area of neurology. If anyone out there (#neurologists?) would like to correct me (especially on my reference to the tau hypothesis), I am all ears and always eager to learn more (and to make sure I'm not spreading misinformation). I should say that maybe the book will go more deeply into the amyloid v. tau hypotheses.
