"Il primo marzo del 2006 Silvio Berlusconi ebbe una standing ovation dal Congresso americano per un vibrante discorso, nel quale ricordò la visita da ragazzo, guidato dal padre, a un cimitero di Guerra americana. Berlusconi citando quell'esperienza volle sottolineare il decisivo sacrificio di tanti soldati statunitensi affinché la libertà prevalesse in Italia e in Europa". Lo afferma in una nota il presidente della Commissione Affari Esteri e Difesa, Maurizio Gasparri. "Sulla libertà e sulla liberazione Berlusconi tornò poi il 25 aprile del 2009, con il celebre 'Discorso di Onna' che auspicava la pacificazione attorno ai valori della libertà e della democrazia, nella condanna di dittature e totalitarismi. Con questo spirito ho accompagnato, anche come presidente della commissione Esteri e Difesa del Senato, i giovani di Forza Italia al cimitero di Nettuno per rendere omaggio ai caduti in guerra tutti. Mentre altri a Roma, comunisti fuori tempo, hanno aggredito chi inneggiava alla libertà con i vessilli di popoli aggrediti. Altrove, a partire da Milano, insulti antisemiti assolutamente intollerabili".

On March 1st, 2006, Silvio Berlusconi received a standing ovation from the American Congress for a vibrant speech in which he recalled his childhood visit, guided by his father, to an American War Cemetery. Berlusconi, citing this experience, wanted to emphasize the decisive sacrifice of many American soldiers so that freedom prevailed in Italy and Europe. This is stated in a note by the President of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Maurizio Gasparri. “Regarding freedom and liberation, Berlusconi returned on April 25th, 2009, with the famous ‘Onna Speech’ which hoped for reconciliation around the values of freedom and democracy, in the condemnation of dictatorships and totalitarianisms. With this spirit, I accompanied the young people of Forza Italia to the Nettuno cemetery to pay homage to all the fallen soldiers. While others in Rome, communists out of step, attacked those who celebrated freedom with the flags of attacked peoples. Elsewhere, starting from Milan, utterly intolerable anti-Semitic insults were made.”
