Georgiana BrummellIt's time for a vote! last year, I was lucky enough to findnot one, but two Acer Aspire One D270s. The first was sold as an extra, but worked well. The second was still sealed in the box! I never thought I would have the pleasure of opening a brand new netbook again. But to this day, I still haven't done so. Now, I have two choices, though I guess three, if I send both off.
1. Have the keyboard replaced, and the drive and Windows upgraded to 7 Professional on my open one.
2. Open the new one and have the drive, Windows, and ram upgraded.
3. Send both machines in and have the above work done.
Technically, on both machines, the drives are fine. They are 320gb models, so they have more than enough space for my needs. But they're 5400 rpm drives, and I want either a 7200 rpm replacement or a solid state one. My open machine has 2gb of ram, which is all the D270 can officially take. I have heard of some people installing 4gb and Windows seeing something like 2.9gb (I forget the exact number, but it wasn't the full 4), but I have also read that it's not always stable and there could be some problems with booting. Can anyone confirm this? If I keep it at 2gb, I am guessing it would make sense to use a 32-bit version of Windows 7 and not a 64-bit one. All of my programs except Reddit for Blind, Accessible Youtube Downloader, and TweeseCake are 32-bit, but only Reddit for Blind works on 7. I am still trying to get the others to work, but that may be an issue with this particular virtual machine.
So, which should I do? Open the new machine, or just send in the old one?
