Every morning now a mistle thrush (Turdus viscivorus) outside the window collects lichen, moss, and twigs like it's the last day of sales.
Today she had a tug-of-war with a string of living ivy that lasted a good 20 seconds. She won.
It's glorious to watch.

Susan RamirezThe wind took down a cottonwood at the Masonville house. Cottonwoods grow fast and make weak wood, but they are still heavy! This one decided to take out a small gate that lets the horses go down to the creek.
There was a large cavity nest inside the trunk that fell. We're trying to figure out whose nest it was.
