In 1951, engineer Pier Luigi #Nervi built the first reinforced #concrete isostatic slab for a storeroom in #Rome. At the time, #construction materials were expensive and labor was not. Using prefabricated formwork with curved ribs following the principal stress directions, he achieved a strong slab with minimal concrete thickness (~5cm). The ceiling is not only structurally efficient but also beautiful. Today, the former Lanificio Gatti serves as the storeroom for a car dealer. #civilengineering
