Long-Necked Envoy

As I sat outside, gazing at the calm waters of the lake, a bird swooped overhead—swift and silent. I managed to capture a couple of images as it passed. It turned out to be a Neotropic Cormorant, its silhouette etched against the sky like a glyph in motion.

Art of Flight

I captured this image of a neotropic cormorant (Nannopterum brasilianum) while crossing the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Louisiana. The bird was passing the ferry at just the right moment, allowing me to take some quality photographs.

The photographs I share here don’t appear as vivid as they do in my Pixel’s gallery. To make them load more easily, I reduce their size and slightly lower their quality. Take a look:

Neotropic Cormorant in Reflection

I spotted this neotropic cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus) at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana. The rippling water and its reflection in the image create a captivating and serene effect that I really enjoy.

I don’t upload all the photos I share here to my Pixels gallery. I only post my personal favorites, while some don’t make the cut. I usually give myself a couple of days to decide how I feel about them before uploading.

Neotropic Cormorant in the Bayou

It can be enjoyable to take an imperfect photograph, isolate the interesting part, and perhaps improve the lighting. That's what I did with this image of a neotropic cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus). In this picture, if you look closely, you'll notice the slightly odd posture of the cormorant's neck and head. The cormorant is just beginning to dive underwater.

On The Move

This neotropic cormorant (Nannopterum brasilianum) was moving fast, in fact, I thought it was about to take flight. But as it turns out in just moved to another spot several meters away.

"A nearly all-black waterbird with a snaky neck, the Neotropic Cormorant occurs in sheltered waters of southern U.S. states, the Caribbean, and Latin America. It is smaller and longer-tailed than other cormorants, but otherwise looks very similar to the Double-crested Cormorant, and the two species often flock together. Unlike its larger cousin, it sometimes plunge-dives for fish from a few feet above the water, almost like a booby, though it dives mostly as it paddles along the water’s surface, catching fish as it darts through the water." - allaboutbirds.org
